Discretionary Data is additional information that will appear on the customer’s receipts. Add new information to PayTrace by using the New Discretionary Data page. This feature is helpful for unique details about your business or industry, such as date of birth, hair color, gender, or how customers discover your business. You can make create up to six discretionary data fields.

How to Use This Page

  1. Enter the Title for the Discretionary Data.Select

  2. Data Type radio button options:

    1. Text Box

    , Drop
    1. Drop Down/Select menu

    , or 
    1. Multi-Select

     for the Discretionary Data Type.
  3. Select Customers or Products to Apply To.

  4. Select Yes or No for Required.

  5. Select Yes or No for On Receipt.

  6. Enter a maximum number of characters, the type of data that should be expected, and whether the element is required.

  7. Enter a minimum number of characters, the type of data that should be expected, and whether the element is required.

  8. Select Alpha-numeric, Alphabetic, Numeric, or Date for the Data Type.
  9. Apply To radio button options:

    1. Customers

    2. Products

  10. Required: (Is this field a required field?)

    1. Yes 

    2. No

  11. Receipt: 

    1. Yes

    2. No

  12. Required Length:

    1. Enter a minimum number of characters.

    2. Enter a maximum number of characters.

  13. Data Type drop-down options:

    1. Alpha-numeric

    2. Alphabetic

    3. Numeric

    4. Date

  14. Click the Save button.


Detailed Help

Required Fields

The red * asterisk denotes whether a field is required.

Title

It must consist of 1 to 50 alpha-numeric characters.

Maximum Length

Must be a numeric value, up to 99.

Required

Indicates whether the Discretionary Data is required.

On Receipt

Indicates whether the discretionary data element will be displayed on receipts. Some sensitive information (e.g., date of birth and social security number) should not be printed or emailed on receipts.

Optional Fields

Type

Text boxes are open text fields that may be defined by Modify Discretionary data after the element is created. Drop Down/Select Menu and Multiple Select may be used to offer options for selection.

Apply To

Options include Customers and Products and the data element that will be presented when a Customer or a Product is referenced, created, or updated.

Minimum Length

Must be a numeric value from 0 to 99.

New Option

Allows for 25 characters of free text. This applies to both the Multiple Select and Drop-down options.
