Connect the Reader
Ensure that the mobile device has Bluetooth enabled in its settings.
Ensure that the PayTrace Go application has the Bluetooth permission.
Pair reader to the PayTrace GO app, not via the mobile device’s Bluetooth menu.
It is very important it be done this way, as it will not work properly if you pair it directly to the phone.
When initially setting the card reader to use the bluetooth hardware, the user will enter in the last 5 of the Serial Number. This is on the bottom of the reader, it does not say S/N, it is the last number on the right side. The S/N is also on the box at the bottom.
Once the card reader is connected via bluetooth, the user will see the blue light change to a fast flash and the app will indicate the card reader is connected.
Tips for Connecting
When pairing for the first time, it seems to work better if the user selected no reader when they first installed the PayTrace Go application.
Be sure that the card reader battery is sufficiently charged, especially when connecting for the first time. A low battery will impair the ability for the reader to connect.
Android takes slightly longer for the app to recognize when pairing for the first time. Please be patient during this process.
Tips for Processing Transactions
The card reader and PayTrace GO app do not support contactless payments.
When in the New Transaction screen, be sure to wait for the app to change from confirming the card reader is connected to saying “Insert Card” before trying to dip or swipe.
Although very uncommon, it was reported that on an Android tablet trying to enter a dollar amount, there was no decimal on the keyboard that appeared on the screen. To get around this issue, the user can install a different keyboard – such as the Google Keyboard – and that should resolve the situation. This only becomes an issue if the user needs to enter anything other than a round dollar amount.
When in the New Transaction screen with the VP3300BT connected, the card reader connection will time out after 30 seconds. If the user decides to key in the card information or adds information to the screen after dipping/swiping the card, the card reader may time out. This will cause the status bar to turn red and display “Card Reader Timed Out”. This is only the reader timing out, not the transaction. The transaction will still go through successfully as long as all of the fields are filled out appropriately. The user can check their transaction history in the app or in their PayTrace browser portal to confirm whether the transaction was successful.
When dipping or swiping, if the card reader is held with the side saying IDTECH (technically the back of the card reader) facing the person dipping or swiping, then the front of the card will always be facing the person processing the card. Both sensors/readers are towards the center of the device. So the chip would be facing towards the person, and the magstripe would be facing away from the person.
The card reader can be plugged into a USB outlet and still be used with the PayTrace Go app as long as it is connected within the app and not connected to another Bluetooth source. This allows the card reader to be used while the battery is charging.
